I received this Floral Hoop Wreath Kit as part of my monthly craft box subscription to Adults and Crafts in March 2021. On a snowy day in March 2023, I decided I needed more spring, and pulled this kit from my stash of craft supplies. This wreath took me 2 solid hours to put together from start to finish (including several short breaks). Watch my YouTube video below as I make the wreath with a few tips and tricks along the way. Or continue reading below.
As of the time of posting, the Floral Hoop Wreath Kit from Adults and Crafts is $37 USD plus shipping if purchased from their website or $42 USD with free shipping from the Adults and Crafts Etsy shop. On their website, this kit is listed under their “Motor Skills” section. They have wonderful customer service if you have questions for them.
TIPS if you’re going to make this yourself:
- Give yourself lots of time. This is art. It does not need to be finished all in one sitting. If you have the space to leave it for a while, give yourself permission to walk away for a bit.
- Make a plan of how you want your wreath to look in the end but be willing to go with the flow.
- While fluffing and adjusting the flowers as you go is helpful, don’t spend too much time on this. You will do lots of fluffing and adjusting at the end.
- Work at a table you can sit at or at a tall table/counter if you prefer to stand when you craft. I tried working at a short table (just above the knee height) and my elder Millennial back hurt throughout the project.
- Cut short sections of the wire off the spool. This is MUCH easier than working with the whole spool.
- Wrapping the wire around your next stem before attaching it to the hoop keeps it from slipping as much.
- Don’t be afraid to flip the project over and work from the back so you can see what you’re doing.
- If you have pets or small children (or both), have a way to cover your wreath if you need to walk away for a bit. My cat makes at least 2 appearances on the video.
- If you have the ability to craft with a friend (either in person or on the phone), do it. Even if you’re not talking about what you’re crafting on, the whole experience is much more enjoyable.
- Remember this is your project and you can make it any way you want.
Finding the supplies if you don’t buy the kit:
I found that Michael’s had all of the supplies but you could easily find most of the supplies from other craft stores like JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby.
Hoop
19″ Gold Metal Wire Floral Hoop by Ashland® Item # 10626551 $4.99
Michael’s also has a 10″ and a 14″ Gold Metal Wire Floral Hoop if the 19 inch is too big for your space. I also found silver colored hoops in these same sizes. Prices on the hoops range from $2.99 to $4.99 depending on the size.
Wire cutters / pruning sheers
Floral Wire Cutter by Ashland® Item # 10708820 $5.99 (On sale at the time of posting)
The ”wire cutters” that came with my kit are actually pruning sheers. I also found a floral shear and wire cutter set from Hobby Lobby for $10. I would not use an expensive set of wire cutters/pruning sheers for this project as cutting the stems and the wire (and if you’re like me, the floral tape as well) really chews up the blade.
Floral wire
Panacea™ Green Floral Wire, 22 Gauge Item # 10343202 $2.99
The gauge is not listed on the instructions for the kit nor on the spool of wire I received from Adults and Crafts. I picked a gauge in the middle when pricing out the supplies. Just remember, small gauge number means wider/thicker wire.
Floral tape
Ashland® Floral Tape Item # 10174355 $2.99
I’m sure the floral wire and tape and even the wire cutters could be purchased fairly cheap from Amazon or even the dollar store. But as the old saying goes, “get what you paid for”.
Floral bunches
The total cost to piece this kit together yourself truly depends on what type of flowers you want in your wreath and how much you spend on the floral bunches. Peony and eucalyptus stems tend to be more expensive than a rose bush stem. If you already have floral stems and bunches in your craft stash or if you’re able to find florals on sale, that will reduce the total cost of the project.
Cost Summary
- Hoop $4.99
- Wire Cutters $5.99 (on sale)
- Floral Wire $2.99
- Floral Tape $2.99
- Floral bunches
- Roses – $0.99 each on sale
- Peonies – $4.99 each on sale
- Eucalyptus – $4.99 each on sale
The Floral Hoop Wreath Kit from Adults and Crafts is well worth the money, especially considering the cost of floral stems and bushes. Additionally, I love the time savings of having everything I need shipped directly to my house.
Like the wreath but don’t have time to make it?
When researching where to purchase the supplies if I were to make a second one, I came across this 19″ Mixed Peony Hoop Wreath by Ashland® (Item # 10706492, regularly $39.99, on sale for $19.99 at the time of posting) from Michael’s. I was able to find and take a photo of this wreath in my local Michael’s store.
Thoughts on the premade wreath
First, it is definitely smaller than the wreath I made with the Adults & Crafts kit. I didn’t measure the wreath in store but it does not appear to be on a 19 inch hoop. Perhaps the wreath is 19 inches from tip to tip of the florals/greenery. Second, I am not a fan of the built-in hook at the top. It is unsightly in my opinion and restricts how you can hang the wreath due to its small size. If purchasing this wreath, I would either attempt to remove it, or at a minimum, cover it with a bow. Last, you’re stuck with the design instead of making it your own. As a bonus, with buying from Adults and Crafts, you are supporting an American small business.
